Skillstories is the online portal for skills; a place for employers to be inspired, informed and supported throughout the journey to a better business by focusing on learning and skills development in the workplace.
Supporting workplace learning is responsible business. The Business Action on Skills campaign has facilitated the creation of a higher skilled workforce, which improves business performance, creates better communities and enables individuals to fulfil their potential.
By increasing responsible business behaviour, the campaign has introduced companies that have been historically inactive in corporate responsibility to the wider Business in the Community agenda.
Business Action on Skills was initially conceived in 2003, with the project fully operational by 2004. The remit, as devised by our original sponsor, the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), was for Business in the Community to engage large private sector businesses and support them in developing workplace skills strategies, and specifically signpost these employers to sources of government support.
As the political agenda has developed, particularly since the Leitch Review in 2006, so has Business Action on Skills. The campaign responded to a wide variety of requests for support from companies and has developed expert knowledge in translating an often complex policy environment into a simplified message for businesses to act upon.
“We value the independent support and advice we have received from Business Action on Skills. It has helped us greatly in developing our workplace learning strategy and taking it to the next level. The continued challenge that Business in the Community provides stimulates and inspires our thinking keeping our approach to skills development both commercially sound and innovative.”
Steve Dodd, Training and Development Controller, Wilkinson
