LDA funds Tribal to continue Skills for Life and Work at Ford Motor Company

Tribal have delivered the Ford award-winning Skills for Life programme since 2007, involving the assessment and coaching of employees by dedicated skills coaches beside the production line. The 1-1 learning sessions are tailored to each employee’s needs and take place in 30-minute slots to minimise the impact of production at the plant.

The programme is representative of the Ford commitment to the Skills Pledge, a government initiative designed to encourage businesses to invest in the skills of their workforce.

Tribal’s Skills for Life and Work programme with Ford is designed to develop a skilled workforce committed to improving the business whilst maintaining employment opportunities now and for the future. To date, Ford has reported significant increases in:

• staff morale and performance
• production volume
• savings to labour and overhead budgets and
• safety (i.e. reduction of accidents)

This approach to developing employees’ skills has been successful in boosting people’s confidence in reading, writing and numeracy not just at work, but also at home. Carolyn Roberts, Tribal’s Ford ESF Project Manager, said:“We are delighted to be able to continue this work with Ford through this additional funding from the LDA and ESF. “This opportunity for employees to learn new skills makes a big difference not only to their working lives but to their confidence at work and at home.”
